How to export a ChatGPT conversation to Markdown

ChatGPT can’t save a conversation as Markdown. Its copy button gives you one message at a time, and its data export gives you HTML and JSON for your whole account, not a .md file of the chat you’re in.
Speed Booster Toolkit does it in a few clicks: open the chat, press Export, pick Markdown. You get your prompts and ChatGPT’s answers in order, code in fenced blocks and tables as tables, ready for Notion, Obsidian or any editor.
How to export a chat to Markdown
- Install Speed Booster Toolkit for Chrome or Firefox. It’s free.
- Open the chat and press Export in the toolkit’s buttons on the right edge of the chat.
- Pick Markdown, and choose every message or only ChatGPT’s answers.
- Save. The
.mdfile goes to your Downloads. Several chats at once come as a ZIP with one file each.
Into Notion, Obsidian and the rest
Notion: choose Import (in the sidebar, or under Settings), then Text & Markdown, and pick the file. The chat becomes a page, with headings, lists and code blocks as Notion blocks.
Obsidian: move the file into your vault’s folder. It shows up as a note straight away, and you can link to it from anywhere else in the vault.
Everything else: Markdown is plain text, so it opens in VS Code, Bear, Typora, iA Writer, a GitHub repository or any text editor, and it will still open in twenty years.

Can ChatGPT export a chat to Markdown by itself?
