Is Speed Booster Toolkit safe?
Updated
Yes. It works only on ChatGPT, your conversations never leave your computer, and it can’t see your password or anything else you do in your browser. Loading, search, the navigator and export all happen right in your browser.
Your folders and bookmarks are encrypted on your computer before they sync to your other browsers, so they can’t be read on the way or where they’re kept, not even by us. Here’s what that means in practice, and how you can check it for yourself.
What it can and can’t do
| Can it? | Why | |
|---|---|---|
| Read the chat you have open | Yes, on your computer | To make it faster, searchable and exportable. Nothing is sent anywhere. |
| Send your conversations anywhere | No | Everything it does with a chat runs in your browser. |
| See your ChatGPT password or login | No | It works inside the ChatGPT tab you’re already signed in to, and never passes on what signs you in. |
| Read other websites you visit | No | It runs only on chatgpt.com (and the older chat.openai.com). |
| See your history, tabs or other extensions | No | It doesn’t ask for those permissions, so your browser won’t give them. |
| Run code downloaded from the internet | No | Everything it runs comes inside the extension, so each version is exactly what the stores reviewed. |
| Track what you do in it | No | There are no analytics in the extension. |
| Show ads or sell your data | No | It’s paid for by people who choose Pro, $7.99 once. |
The permissions it asks for
Your browser shows these before you install, and only these:
- Access to chatgpt.com. To work inside ChatGPT. Without it, it couldn’t do anything at all.
- Storage. To keep its settings, your folders and bookmarks, and its index of the open chat on your computer.
- The tab you click it on. So clicking its icon on a ChatGPT tab opens its settings there.
- Access to Freemius, the payment service, to check a Pro license. On Chrome it’s asked for only when you activate or buy Pro.
No access to all websites, your browsing history, your downloads or your other tabs.
What leaves your computer
Folders and bookmarks, encrypted first
They’re encrypted in your browser, with a key that never leaves it, before they sync to your other browsers. Chat titles and message text are never sent at all. Switch off Folders and the Chat navigator and syncing stops.
A license check, if you have Pro
Your license key goes to Freemius, which handles payments. Your card details go only to the checkout, never to us.
What you choose to send
Your email address, if you sign up for the newsletter. The feedback form, if you fill it in. An email, if you write to us. Nothing goes without you doing it.
Nothing else
No chats, no titles, no browsing, no usage statistics. The privacy policy lists every case, in plain words.
Check it yourself
- In Chrome, open
chrome://extensions, find Speed Booster Toolkit and press Details. Under Site access you’ll see chatgpt.com and chat.openai.com, and nothing else. - In Firefox, open
about:addons, choose Speed Booster Toolkit and open its Permissions tab. - Both stores list the same permissions on the extension’s page before you install: Chrome Web Store, Firefox Add-ons.
Why you can trust it
Every version is checked before it reaches you. The Chrome Web Store and Firefox Add-ons review each update before it’s published, and your browser only installs versions they’ve approved.
It’s Featured on the Chrome Web Store, a badge Google gives extensions that follow its technical best practices and meet its standards for a good experience. 50,000+ people use it, and it’s rated 4.5 from 319 ratings on Chrome and 4.4 on Firefox.
There’s a real person behind it. It’s built by one independent developer, who answers [email protected] personally (about us).
Found a security problem?
Please email [email protected] with what you found and how to see it. You’ll get an answer from the developer, and a fix as quickly as it can be made. We ask that you give us the chance to fix it before you share it publicly.
Common questions
Is Speed Booster Toolkit safe to use?
Yes. It works only on ChatGPT, your conversations never leave your computer, and it can’t see your password, your other tabs or the rest of your browsing. Every update is reviewed by the Chrome Web Store and Firefox Add-ons before it reaches you.
Can Speed Booster Toolkit read my ChatGPT conversations?
It reads the chat you have open, in your browser, because that’s how it makes it faster, searchable and exportable. It never sends your conversations anywhere.
Does it store my chats on a server?
No. Your chats stay with ChatGPT and on your computer. Only your folders and bookmarks sync between your browsers, encrypted on your computer first, without chat titles or message text.
Can it see my ChatGPT password?
No. It works inside the ChatGPT tab you’re already signed in to and never passes on anything that signs you in.
Is it safe to use with work chats?
Your conversations never leave your computer, which is usually what matters. If your company has rules about browser extensions, check them first: this page and the privacy policy are there to show whoever approves them.
What happens to my data when I uninstall it?
Everything it kept on your computer is removed with it. To remove your synced folders and bookmarks too, use “Delete all folders and bookmarks” in its settings first.
